Ka Manaaki, Ka Rapu, Ka Whakamanawa tahi ai tātou.

Caring, Exploring and Inspiring Together.

Houghton Valley School is nestled in the hills above Houghton Bay on the beautiful, wild south coast of Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

We enjoy all that Wellington city has to offer, whilst sharing a warm sense of small school community and whānau. With our extensive grassed playing areas, bike track and adventure playgrounds, our tamariki enjoy the best of all worlds.

Nau mai ki Te Kura o Haewai. Welcome to Houghton Valley School.

Our unique and special kura is at the centre of our valley and our community.

The vision for our learners is Ka Manaaki, Ka Rapu, Ka Whakamanawa, tahi ai tātou/Caring, Exploring and Inspiring Together.

This focus is woven through our Local Curriculum and infuses many facets of school life for our year 0-6 learners.

We are immersed in a beautiful green environment which features strongly in our learning. Houghton Valley School is proud to be a Green Gold EnviroSchool.

Our kura is lead by talented, highly skilled teachers and support staff who are committed to ensuring our learners thrive and are provided with the best environment.

We also know that school isn’t solely about academic and curriculum achievements. It is also about having fun, belonging, and creating lifelong learners who are emotionally and socially equipped for life.

We are focussed on helping and supporting our tamariki to be creative, confident, and caring people who can relate with anyone and make good decisions. This is demonstrated through our high behaviour expectations, our focus on student hauora/wellbeing, and our restorative approach when they face difficulties and challenges in their relationships.

At HVS we strongly value and love working together with whānau. We place a big emphasis on getting to know you, as well as your child. We foster an inclusive community and welcome all children and whānau. We look forward to you joining us here at HVS and being part of our amazing community.
