Term 2 in Mahoe

Wow, what a busy term! I bet everybody is looking forward to the holidays, I know I am!  Our term has been based all around the Soccer World Cup.  We have all enjoyed learning about new continents and countries.  We learnt how to write information reports and we produced quite a few, some as a class and some in groups and some of us even did some for homework!

Our visual art has been based around colour mixing and making.  We ran out of time to do all I had planned so we will try and finish this off next term.

In maths we enjoyed a statistics unit where we learnt how to make and read graphs.  We also discovered how many ways we could make 10.  And of course we really enjoyed playing soccer on sunny days, especially challenging Kowhai and teaching Pohutakawa  how to play.

I hope everyone has a relaxing holiday and recharges their batteries for a busy term 3.  Don’t forget to dig out your swimming togs!

Soccer Fever

TERM TWO IS OVER

Soccer Fever has hit Kowhai! We have had lots of fun over the past three weeks following the Soccer World Cup. This term we researched some of the countries that have taken part in it. We have been learning to find, use and record information as a report. We have also learnt and practised new soccer skills and enjoyed challenging Mahoe at Number Soccer, it has been great fun and very exciting to watch. Who knows maybe one day one of us will be an All White!

Soccer World Cup dress-up day

We were given a wonderful opportunity by Dave our caretaker and the Birdman to experience ‘Bird Banding’. We helped band many Yellow Eyes and had great delight in letting the banded birds free. So keep an eye out and you may spot one of the birds we helped band. We learnt that birds are banded to keep track of how far they travel and how long they live.

Our classroom is very bright with colourful works of art. We have explored mixing colours, using colour expressively and creating art from other countries. We are currently in the process of making papier mache shakers, a new experience for some children.

We have also had a wonderful dance experience with Ms Cossey who taught the children how to Morris dance. It has helped Kowhai become champion skippers.

Getting ready to Morris Dance!

The term has flown by and we are getting ready for the holidays. The holidays are for recharging and relaxing! Please enjoy and don’t forget to read, read and read lots of books!
