I wonder…What’s going on in Karaka?

It has been a busy start to the year in Karaka.  We have been learning lots of new things and having a lot of fun! For the last couple of weeks we have been getting to know each other to find out what makes us and our class special.  We have begun some outstanding self portraits using pencil.

Last week we begam to learn about composting! We had a visit from Caretaker Dave and some of the kids who were in Karaka last year.  This year we will find out what composting is, where it happens and how.  We will take charge of the school compost bins and worm farms and will soon be teaching the school how things are done.

A big highlight of being in Karaka is that we are getting some of those questions we have always wondered about answered! Every week Karaka has two ‘I wonder…’ questions for homework.  On Thursday’s we share what we learnt.  Some examples so far which you can wonder about are…

How is glass made?

What does Karaka mean?

Why did the Egyptians have mummies?

What are volcanoes?

Here are some of our answers…

This weeks questions are…

Why are some things poisonous? and Why do we wear clothes?

You can find out what each weeks ‘I wonder…’ questions are by taking a look at the Wonder Wall in front of the door into Karaka and you can find out what we have learnt by looking on the walls!

We are looking forward to the cross country and all the other events happening this term!
